The LPI Earthing Calculator is designed to give an indicative result to assist with the preliminary planning of an earthing installation. It calculates the expected system resistance and the quantity of earth enhancing compound required. All calculations are based on formulae in IEEE Std. 80 and AS 1768.

Whilst the formulas used cover a range of common arrangements, the design of an earthing system requires numerous input parameters that can influence the result. Hence, all results should be verified by an appropriately qualified engineer, taking into account factors such as step and touch voltages, site layout, materials, fault current magnitude and duration, etc.
